2011 statistics by Nielsen found that social networks and blogs continue to dominate Canada and American’s time online, now accounting for nearly a quarter of total time spent on the internet.  The same study found that 70% of active online adult social networkers shop online and 70% of them trust consumer opinions posted online.  Small businesses everywhere are finding it worth their while to jump into social media and join in the conversations surrounding their business.

  1. All great points, Melonie! I think humanizing your brand is one of the biggest benefits of a strong social media presence, since it will ultimately help your small business create meaningful business relationships and brand ambassadors.

    I’ve also seen it used for customer support so customers can get a quick and easy response to a question or concern. Again, it shows that you’re listening and care about your clients.

    1. I loved your comment Linda. Really it all depends on how you it. I teach my clients on how to use it to create relationships online and then develop them by taking them offline. Over 90% of the business relationships I currently have started online. Like everything, there is good and bad!
