How Social Networking Has Changed Our Lives

Every now and then I catch myself feeling nostalgic about my old record player and how I wish it were still the standard in audio.  Thankfully, most of us don’t feel the same way about the Internet and, consequently, it has seen incredible achievements within its lifespan. It’s amazing to think that the Internet is barely twenty years old yet it has completely changed and reinvented it’s look and vibe more times than wardrobe on a Broadway musical.

Over the past 5 years, there has been a brand new trend in Internet culture. This trend strays away from the traditional “one-way” user experience that the original Internet thrived off and towards a more “social” approach. It’s painfully obvious that social networking has recently become the dominant occupier of Internet users’ time but until recently most of us were unsure of exactly how dominant it truly is.

The stats are in and they are jaw dropping, to say the least. I remember being floored when I heard that YouTube had more traffic than the entire Internet combined a few years ago and these stats are even more shocking.  And by the time this video was created some of the stats were already wrong as things are growing so quickly we can’t keep up.

From the early days of Friendster and MySpace to the domination of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn – this video provides perspective on the massive progression of social networking. Enjoy!

Please share your comments on how the internet and social media has changed your life.
