6 Things Sales & Marketing Have in Common with Farming

While the old analogy, “what you sow is what you reap” probably comes to mind, you might be wondering just what other sales & marketing wisdom can be taken from digging in the dirt. You might be surprised by the similarities, not just in processes but also of the mindset needed to be successful. Sales and marketing today are very different than they were, even just a few years ago. Your ideal clients now have plenty of choices easily available to them and access to the information that will help them make that choice. If you want them to choose YOU, you need to give them a good reason. You need to be easy to find, you need to stand out and most importantly, you need to make it very clear why you are the only choice for them. So how exactly do you accomplish this? You do this by building a relationship and establishing trust with your ideal clients. Oddly enough, building trust and relationships is a lot like farming. Here are the six stages of farming and how you can take these lessons into your sales & marketing to be successful – and yes, fruitful. 6 Sales & Marketing Takeaways From […]

Find & Connect With Your Ideal Clients On Social Media

Have you ever wondered how to find your ideal clients on social media? If you are like most business people or marketers, locating your ideal customers and prospects is often a challenge when using social media. In fact, a key finding in the 2016 Social Media Marketing Industry Report by Social Media Examiner discovered that one of areas that marketers (and most other businesses) struggle with most, is locating their ideal customer and prospects. This was true for 86% of the people who took the survey. Thankfully, this task will be much easier if you have worked through my two previous articles on ideal client, How To Get Your Marketing To Attract Your Ideal Clients and Speak Directly to Your Ideal Clients in Your Marketing. The content in this series will help you to attract, speak to, locate and connect with your ideal clients. Locating Your Ideal Clients Your first objective is to find out what social media platforms your potential clients spend their time on. If you already have access to your ideal clients, such as through a brick and mortar store or email list, take advantage of this and ask them what platforms they prefer to use. If […]

Speak Directly to Your Ideal Clients in Your Marketing

Do you ever wonder why your marketing messages do not produce the kind of results that you were hoping for? Have you started to question the effectiveness or value that you are getting from your social media and other online marketing efforts? If this is true for you, you are not alone. But have you ever considered that you might not be speaking to the right group of people, or alternatively that you are not speaking the right language to get the attention of your ideal clients? In my last article How To Get Your Marketing To Attract Your Ideal Clients, I shared how to define and identify your ideal clients. While being able to define who your ideal clients are is an important first step to being able to market successfully, it is not enough if you hope to connect with this community and build a relationship with them. “Profitability depends on delivering pertinent content and desired solutions to a specific audience.” ~Steve Olsher Once you know who your ideal clients are and how they identify themselves, you need to go deeper and understand them – what is important to them, the challenges they face and the language that […]

How To Get Your Marketing To Attract Your Ideal Clients

“Everyone is not your customer.”   ~Seth Godin No one has said it better than Seth Godin. This short, 5-word sentence is a vital concept in business and yet most people still have a hard time fully understanding the importance of it. The thought usually goes, more is better. Especially when you are talking about customers. But that is not the case when deciding WHO your business should market to. Let me share two other quotes, which might shed some light on the situation.  “When you speak to everyone, you speak to no one.” ~Meredith Hill “You can’t be everything to everyone, but you can be something to someone.” ~Andrew Davis What these quotes essentially mean is that by choosing to market to everyone, your message is so diluted and generic that it will not speak to anyone at all. Today people want and expect personalization. They want a message that speaks directly to them and people like them. They want to emotionally connect with your message – essentially why you do what you do. (Check out Simon Sinek’s TED talk video to help you figure out your why message.) If you fail to do this, then you will […]
